Matt Maher

Matt Maher graduated from Southern Illinois University Carbondale with a B.A. in Music in 2011. His main instrument training revolved around the Classical guitar. Matt was the recipient of the Community Music Scholarship while attending SIUC because of his prior piano and violin training. Matt taught for three years as a teacher assistant for the Thomas grade school string program and as the guitar instructor for the Saturday Strings program in Carbondale Illinois. Matt began his musical training at the age of eight on the piano and quickly grew a love for the guitar. At the age of twelve he began studying the guitar. His high school years consisted of playing bass in Kellum, a metal band based out of Chicago. During Matt’s college years he was the guitarist and composer for the indie rock band Kid Tiger, playing along side such acts as Kendrick Lamar and Murder by Death. He has also had success in the music business heading the Special Effects Department for the FUN 2013 U.S. Tour. Matt is currently playing out in a ragtime and country blues band called 4th City Rag.
